2. State Trooper Reunites Missing Husky With Owners After Car Crash
“If it wasn’t for everyone looking and all the Facebook postings we might never have found her.”
You would think being rushed to the emergency room in an ambulance after hitting a patch of ice and totaling your pick up truck, would be the scariest moments Damianne Daugherty experienced.
Instead, however, it was when her Siberian husky Anastasia, a 6-year-old dog the family has had since she was a puppy, became frightened during the crash and took off along the highway.
Even with injuries caused from the accident that included breaking the truck’s back window with her own head, her dog was her biggest concern.
Daughtery stated, “It was devastating not knowing where she was, and if she was all right. She was all I could think about.”
Luckily, after only 24 hours and with the help of strangers, social media and the Indiana State Police, Anastasia was able to be reunited with her family.
Indiana State Police Master Trooper Dwayne Halliburton, explained the rescue happened so quickly thanks to a stroke of luck and chance, “I received a text from our dispatcher and she was reading on Facebook that apparently a dog that was traveling in a vehicle that was in an accident and it jumped out of the vehicle and apparently the owners couldn’t find it. I’m getting close to the 251-mile marker, and guess who’s running on the side of the road. As it turns out, I just happened to be at the right place at the right time.”
The Daughertys were contacted and met Officer Halliburton on U.S. 30, while he blocked off traffic.
Shortly after Daugherty and her husband John arrived they spotted Anastasia and called her to them, reunited with their dog.
“God bless him and everyone who helped us in the last 24 hours. Without them, I don’t know what would have happened,” Daugherty said.
3. Couple Returns Diaper Bag Filled With Family’s Life Savings
“Oh my God, I’m still shaking. You just saved my life. Can I have a hug please?”
After visiting a Christmas display in Long Beach, California, a man attending college in Southern California stopped for a photo and then accidentally left without his bag. The bag contained his family’s passport as well as $5,000 in cash.
On that same night, Gabriel Ruiz and Gabriela Jauregui were taking a photo in the same spot and noticed the bag. They waited to see if anyone would come back for it and when no one returned for it, the two looked inside for clues to return it.“We saw the wallet, opened that up and then there was just a ton of money in there,” the couple said.
After finding contact details inside, the pair was able to call the number and return the bag to its rightful owner.
