Bergamot offers a variety of cardiovascular health benefits, stemming from the five active ingredients it possesses — neoeriocitrin, naringin, neohesperidin, melitidine, and bruteridine — and the fact that it blocks a key enzyme in cholesterol production. Of course, bergamot can also be used in teas, marmalades, and desserts, as previously described.     Thank you for this, Derek. I have long been peripherally aware of bergamot, as it is the additive that defines Earl Grey’s tea. Used to be a favorite of mine, B4 I quit drinking tea entirely; not to my benefit, obviously.

    I have long been under the sway of the unattributed ‘fact’ that bergamot is deleterious.

    And I haven’t been all that focussed on the issue since black tea started to induce the odd side effect of almost instantaneous projectile vomiting. Not sayin’ it makes me nauseous, ya’ unnerstand. Too quick for that. . .

    So I’m keen to research this citrus from a fresh angle.

    To Derek,

    a helpful article however I wish to add: this orange and the supplements will lower subclinical inflammation I daresay. Cholesterol is not the villain responsible for atherosclerosis! Arterial disease will start by sub clinical inflammation of the lumen as various injuries to it (Cholesterol is not one of them), that sets in motion the cascade of events ending in atherosclerosis. Cholesterol can also viewed as an indicator , when lowered indicating likely low inflammation..
