Can This Supplement Help Reduce Heart Inflammation?

Nearly one out of every thirteen American adults has Coronary Artery Disease (CAD), causing major blood vessels to become damaged. Coronary Artery Disease is often caused by cholesterol plaque build up in arteries, caused by a diet high in saturated fat. Over years, this plaque build up can cause blockages of blood flow to the heart, leading to heart attack.

In a recent study, researchers looked at the ability of L-carnitine to reduce inflammation in people with coronary artery disease. L-carnitine is most often used for treating carnitine deficiencies in strict vegetarians (since carnitine naturally occurs in animal products) or those taking certain medications. Using 1000 mg per day for twelve weeks, subjects had significantly lower levels of inflammation markers.

So what’s so special about L-carnitine?

Researchers state the power of L-carnitine may be related to its antioxidant capacity. Other studies have shown it L-carnitine can positively impact energy levels as well as prevent muscle fatigue and support brain health.
