Vitamin D May Help Reverse Heart Damage (Yes, Reverse!)

by

When we think of heart disease, our thoughts immediately turn to traditional risk factors for the disease, such as high cholesterol levels, triglycerides or blood pressure. But did you know that low vitamin D levelsis one of the risk factors for cardiovascular disease, too?

Considering the fact that vitamin D deficiency is one of the most common nutritional deficiencies in the U.S., this presents a serious heart threat to millions upon millions of Americans. However, even if you are vitamin D deficient, correcting your levels of this nutrient may be able to undo some of the damage.

The Prostate Mistake Millions of Men Make

If you suffer from prostate problems, youre not alone. By age 70, a shocking 9 in 10 American men will struggle with start and stop urine flow, an inability to perform or having to go all the time even in the middle of the night.

It’s a myth, however, that prostate trouble is an unavoidable part of aging for men. While the conventional approach to dealing with prostate problems doesn’t address the root cause and can actually make things worse there is a natural solution that is simple, safe and effective.

Vitamin D3 Restores Damaged Cardiovascular Cells

In a unique method using nanosensors, a research team from Ohio State University was able to track the impact of vitamin Don single endothelial cells. (These are the cells that line all of the blood vessels in your body.) And they made some significant discoveries:

  1. Treatment with vitamin D3 significantly restored damage caused by high blood pressure, diabetes and arterial plaque while also reducing the risk of a heart attack.
  2. Vitamin D3 acted as a powerful stimulator of nitric oxide. This is a signaling molecule that regulates blood flow and prevents the formation of clots.
  3. Vitamin D3 significantly reduced levels of oxidative stress in the cardiovascular system.

With these results, the study authors suggest that vitamin D3may be of clinical importance for patients who have suffered a heart attack or stroke; and for people who have diabetes or arterial plaques.

There are not many, if any, known systems which can be used to restore cardiovascular endothelial cells which are already damaged, and Vitamin D3can do it, study author Professor Dr. Tadeusz Malinski said. This is a very inexpensive solution to repair the cardiovascular system. We dont have to develop a new drug. We already have it.

Are You D3 Deficient?

Given the enormous benefit that vitamin D3 can have on your cardiovascular health, its a good idea to have your vitamin D levels tested on an annual basis. Its a relatively inexpensive blood test that may just save your heart health. Simply ask your doctor to run a 25-OH D blood test on your next visit.

If your levels are below 40 ng/mL, take 125 mcg (5,000 IU) of supplemental D3 daily to help restore normal values. If your levels are higher than that, take a minimum of at least 75 mcg (3,000 IU) of supplemental vitamin D3 each day to maintain adequate status.

And whenever possible, expose your skin to sunlight. For most people, just 10 to 20 minutes of sun on the arms and legs a few times a week can help.
