Mile a Day Keeps Diabetes Risks Away
People with type 2 diabetes face increased risks of heart disease and stroke. Exercise has been recommended as a way to help prevent diabetes and also as a way to stave off complications and decrease the need for medication. But a recent survey showed many diabetics are not taking advantage of the benefits of exercise.
Maybe this latest research will help. Following a group of adults aged 50-90 for 10 years, researchers found that those diabetics who had walked at least one mile a day were half as likely to die from all causes than those who were sedentary. They were less than 1/5 as likely to die from heart disease.
