According to Canadian researchers, lentils can substantially relieve high blood pressure and reverse the decline in blood vessel health that comes with age. It appears that this humble, inexpensive food may offer dramatic health benefits.

Lentils Can Increase Blood Flow and Block High Blood Pressure

Dr. Zahradka and Dr. Carla Taylor from the University of Manitoba based their findings on two animal studies conducted in 2013 and 2014. One was a clinical trial that showed how eating a mixture of peas, lentils, beans and chickpeas could increase blood flow to the legs of people with peripheral artery disease, which is closely related to cerebrovascular disease and coronary heart disease. In the second trial, lentils were found to block high blood pressure effectively.
