We have been so conditioned to purchase skin care products that most of us don’t realize we have what we need right in our kitchen or bathroom cupboard. As I previously posted, the majority of skin care products contain ingredients that are counterproductive to caring for the skin. Unless you are knowledgeable about what to look for, it can be daunting looking at the ingredients listings on skin care product labels and determining whether they are worth purchasing.
As much as we may cherish the wisdom that comes with our years, none of us like to notice any signs of aging, like wrinkles or dark spots.
And now there’s an amazingly simple way to reduce visible signs of aging while promoting healthy skin. And it doesn’t involve expensive beauty creams, harsh chemicals or potentially risky cosmetic procedures!
Unfortunately, many clean, natural and holistic skin care products are more expensive. This is because the usually have to be made in smaller batches to maintain freshness, since less preservatives are used and because the ingredients are more natural (and thus more expensive) than what is found in conventional skin care products. Being that the ingredients are of higher quality, in general, less of the product goes a longer way and lasts longer than conventional products. All this said, there are some skin care products that you don’t need to buy, because you can use a great alternative right at home.
Exfoliating your skin is essential to obtaining a healthy glow, removing dead skin cells and aiding in the reduction of blackheads. Sure, you can purchase an exfoliating product and use that 2-3 times a week, or you can simply pull out your all purpose baking soda and use that instead. Yes, baking soda.
Baking soda is gentle and safe enough to use 3 times a week, although twice a week is plenty. It does a great job at removing dead skin and bringing blackheads out so they can easily be removed without scarring.
How to Exfoliate with Baking Soda
You will need:
1-2 tsp baking soda
Several drops of water
1. Cleanse your face with facial cleanser.
2. Place a teaspoon or two of baking soda in your palm and add a few drops of water to moisten.
3. With your free hand, dip your index and middle finger into the baking soda paste and gently rub all over your face using a circular motion.
4. Leave on your face for about 5 minutes until dry.
5. Rinse off your face and follow with a gentle toner and then a facial moisturizer.
If by chance you do find that your skin becomes irritated, use less baking soda. Allow time to see the benefits, about 6 weeks.
