Genetically Modified Food Labeling May Soon Be Mandatory in California
a href=”http://www.liveinthenow.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/06/gmo.jpg”> Thanks to the dedication and hard work of many volunteers and organizations, the residents of California will be the first given the right to vote for mandatory labeling on GMO foods.
Nearly doubling the 504,760 signatures needed to secure a spot on the November ballot for the Genetically Engineered Foods Mandatory Labeling Initiative Statute, Californians are poised to take the lead in what we hope will spur a movement nationwide, forcing food manufacturers to eliminate their use of GMO ingredients from all food products.
With more than 90% of consumers indicating they would actively avoid GMOs if given the choice, I think it’s safe to say it will be a shock to our nation if California’s initiative to label GMO foods does not pass with flying colors.
