Fish Oil Stops Dry Eyes
If you have dry eyes, you know how painful this condition can be. A simple breeze across your face can sting. Cutting onions or tending a smoky grill can be unbearable. Using eye drops that “get the red out” only makes dry eyes worse. Those drops contain antihistamine, and although they may ease the sting, over time they dry your eyes out even more.
Instead of suffering, or using drugs that make matters worse, try fish oil. Several studies show that people who have dry eyes see improvement when they add 1,000-2,000 mg a day of fish oil to their diet.
The fish oil does two things: The omega-3 fatty acids it contains reduce inflammation in your eyes, which can dry out the lubricating mucous membranes in your eyelids. And it changes the composition of your tears, making them more oily, so they evaporate more slowly and keep eyes moist longer.
Other ways to help dry eyes:
- Use a humidifier in your house.
- Drink plenty of water.
- Eat an anti-inflammatory diet and take antioxidant vitamins like C and E.
Some people even report that the same supplements that help their arthritis, glucosamine and chondroitin, help their dry eyes.
With the fish oil, be patient. It can take 1-2 months to begin to see results.
The Anti-Aging Bottom Line: Why use drugs for dry eyes when you can achieve better results—with no side effects—with fish oil? New research even shows fish oil can even help you live longer!
