Fish Oil Prevents Wrinkles!
Here’s an amazing new way to keep your skin younger and smoother as you get older. Get more fish oil. It can help stave off wrinkles, suggests new research.
A new study, published in the Journal of Lipid Research, shows that the omega-3 EPA in fish oil can suppress the type of aging damage in your skin that causes sagging and wrinkles! The researchers concluded that fish oil is “a potential agent for the prevention and treatment of skin aging.”
Much research suggests that fish oil prevents heart attacks and Alzheimer’s, combats depression, and helps control inflammation and pain. Yet, most Americans are still woefully deficient in omega-3 fatty acids from fish oil.
This new promise of wrinkle-resistant skin may be the most persuasive reason yet to induce people to get more fish oil. ”It’s the study we’ve all been waiting for,” quipped one federal health official.
In the study, researchers applied EPA omega-3 fatty acids to human skin cells and then subjected the fibroblasts to UV radiation to simulate sun exposure and the type damage associated with increased wrinkling, sagging and laxity as we age.
Cells getting the omega-3 EPA were more resistant to signs of damage and thus wrinkles. The fish oil blocked certain chemical reactions known to induce damage. (Hyeon Ho Kim, J Lipid Res 2005, 46:1712-1720.)
