Detox Is Trendy, But Is It Healthy?

by

Detox Though the idea of purifying the body for health predates Biblical times, it’s taken on a new urgency in this modern day and age. While wandering the desert, Moses didn’t have to deal with the 20+ billion pounds of toxic chemicals that are released into our environment each year — over 4.5 billion pounds of which are recognized carcinogens.

Let’s face it. No matter how hard you try to keep your diet and environment pure, there are toxins in the air you breathe, the water you drink and the soil your food is grown in. It’s a global problem and, unfortunately, there’s no escaping it.

With an ever-increasing number of studies linking exposure to chemical toxins to a growing list of health problems ranging from cognitive decline and weight gain to hormonal imbalances and mood swings, it’s no wonder that “detoxing” is becoming such a hot trend.

This has led to the proliferation of diet books, packaged “cleanses” and other all-in-one products that promise to flush all of the toxins out of your body in one fell swoop. Many of these products are simply inconvenient gimmicks, requiring you to stay near a bathroom for days on end. While others are downright dangerous — flooding your body with dangerous toxins in an ill-conceived attempt to remove them.

Is Eliminating Dangerous Toxins Even Possible?

You may have read about all the wonderful benefits that detoxing can have. Maybe you’ve been told that it can help you lose weight, clear up brain fog and boost your energy levels. Perhaps you have also been told that it can support a healthy liver, improve your immune function or make you look and feel younger.

Are these claims true or false? Well, the fact is, all of these things can happen as a result of detoxification, but only if you do it right! And what most people don’t realize is that doing it wrong can actually magnify the risks these dangerous toxins pose!

That’s right, when done incorrectly, cleansing can actually make your body “dirtier” or more toxic, and the implications for your health can be disastrous. And, unfortunately, millions of American are doing detox the wrong way each year!

While just about everyone can benefit from detoxification, you absolutely need to understand what you’re doing before you undertake a cleanse or detox program, or you could end up doing more harm than good for all your trouble.

Please keep reading, because I’m going to give you all the details you need to know about how to safely remove toxins from your body, so you can look and feel great for a long time to come.

The Dirty Truth About “Cleansing”

You may know someone who had a bad reaction while detoxing, or perhaps you’ve experienced a bad reaction yourself. This might have included horrible headaches, other aches and pains, digestive distress, fever…or worse.

Some people in the natural health world will tell you that this is just part of the process. They even have names for it. You might hear the terms “healing crisis” or “Herxheimer reaction.”

But that’s just a load of hype and spin. Let me explain what’s really happening…

To understand why short-term “cleanses” are not always such a great idea — or even very effective — let’s take a closer look at how detoxification happens in the body.

So How Does Detoxification Work Anyhow?

Most toxins you encounter are fat-soluble, which means your body stores them in fat cells. This effectively helps to buffer the delicate tissues of your internal organs from the toxins’ destructive effects.

It’s the job of your liver to metabolize these toxins and transform them into water-soluble derivatives for subsequent elimination from the body via stool, urine, sweat and respiration.

The problems start when your detox regimen begins to pull these toxins out of your fat cells and into your bloodstream at a rate that is far too rapid for the liver to keep up with. Once they are released into your bloodstream, these toxins can quickly travel throughout your body, triggering inflammation, wreaking havoc on your heart, brain and other vital organs, and making you feel miserable.

Here are 10 signs your liver is crying for help:

1. Digestive discomfort or bloating
2. Food cravings and/or blood sugar issues
3. Brain fog or memory problems
4. Congested sinuses or fluid retention
5. Difficulty losing weight
6. Skin flare-ups and/or itchy skin
7. Fatigue unrelieved by more sleep
8. Overheating or excessive sweating
9. Mood swings or irritability
10. Suboptimal immune function

The Only Healthy Way to Detox

When we’re talking about detoxification, the conversation should not be about flushing all the toxins out of your system in a short period of time, but rather about improving and optimizing the function of your body’s own detoxification systems on an everyday basis.

Healthy cleansing and detoxification is done in two basic ways:

1) Decreasing the amount of toxins you put into your body

2) Supporting your body’s natural detoxification and elimination systems with the nutrients it needs to function properly

Without these targeted nutrients to help the body clear out waste every day, any attempt at “detoxing” won’t give your body the help it really needs.

Done right, detoxification should be done slowly and continuously, never giving these toxins the chance to settle in and wreak havoc on your health, or to overwhelm your liver trying to flush months or even years of toxic build-up all at once.

The Safe, Effective and Easy Detox Plan

I want to stress again that the best detox plan is centered around supporting your body’s natural systems of detoxification on a daily basis.

Safe and effective detoxification won’t cause a “healing crisis” or make you feel woozy from lack of nutrients. It won’t require you to drink strange concoctions or make dining with friends close to impossible. And it won’t interrupt your life by forcing you to plan your day around being constantly near a bathroom.

Here’s my 5-step foolproof plan for what you need to do:

Step 1: Limit your exposure to toxins. Choose organic and non-GMO foods. Filter your drinking water. Get plastic containers and non-stick cookware out of your kitchen. Use natural, non-toxic products on your skin. And avoid unnecessary pharmaceuticals drugs.

Step 2: Support your pathways of elimination. Make sure you’re getting enough fiber to ensure that waste moves through your intestines efficiently and increase your intake of water. A good rule of thumb is to consume at least half your body weight in fluid ounces of filtered water every day.

Step 3: Stay active. Many toxins are carried to the lungs to be eliminated in respiration. In addition, any type of sweating facilitates the release of toxins through the skin. So regular exercise, as well as non-active sweating in a sauna or steam bath, helps the elimination process via the skin.

Step 4: Consume detox-promoting foods. Many phytonutrients enhance the operation of the body’s natural detoxification systems. It’s also important to eat enough protein, as the liver uses protein to obtain the amino acids it needs to synthesize the master detox compound, glutathione.

Step 5: Take supplemental nutrients to support your liver. Breakthrough research suggests that certain natural compounds can help support your body’s natural ability to detoxify. For example, glutathione and milk thistle extract work together to supporthealthy, complete detoxification and optimal liver function. These two are my favorites, but there are several others that work great too!

Glutathione: The Detoxifying Nutrient That Could Save Your Life

Glutathione is the most powerful antioxidant in your body. It’s found in every cell and plays a critical role in controlling inflammation, supporting your immune system and in facilitating removal of toxins. Research has shown that as glutathione levels increase in your body, so does the function of natural killer (NK) cells, a biomarker for increased immune health.[1]

However, glutathione levels can decline up to 50% below optimal levels as we age, and the consequences can be grave.[2] One study found that people with the lowest levels are much more likely to suffer a heart attack than those with the highest levels.[3] Additionally, roughly 1 in 2 Americans suffers from a reduced capacity of glutathione, which impairs the body’s ability to get rid of toxins.[4]

It’s nearly impossible to get enough glutathione from food for significant benefits, which is why supplementation is so important. I recommend taking least 50 mg daily of the superior reduced form of glutathione.

Milk Thistle Extract: Glutathione’s Partner in Good Health

Milk thistle extract has been used for thousands of years to support liver health, and it remains one of the most effective herbs for liver cleansing and protection. It works by binding to toxins and quenching free radicals.[5] Milk thistle also supports healthy levels of glutathione in the body and promotes optimal levels of detoxification enzymes in the liver, kidneys and intestines.[6,7]

Remarkable research has shown that silymarin, one of the key active compounds in milk thistle, supports detoxification by lowering oxidative stress in the liver associated with toxin metabolism.[8]This helps conserve glutathione levels, a beneficial effect that has even been used to reverse liver damage associated with acetaminophen (Tylenol®).[9]

Milk thistle has an excellent safety profile, and studies confirm that milk thistle can protect liver function and normalize elevated liver enzyme levels.[10,11] Taking a high quality milk thistle supplement is your best bet in terms of getting therapeutic amounts. Based on what the research shows, I recommend taking a standardized extract that provides 420 mg of silymarin daily.

The Easy Way to Start a DetoxPlan That Works!

By now, I hope I’ve convinced you of the importance of a daily detox plan. I think you’ll be amazed as to how quickly it can revitalize your health from head to toe. You’ll feel better, look better and have much more energy.

The first thing to do is avoid short-term cleanses. As I explained above, they are NOT the solution. Not only can they sap your energy while disrupting your daily routine, they can actually do more harm than good as the rapid release of toxins overwhelms your liver’s ability to process them.

The second action item is to follow my 5-step plan above the best you can, and that includes taking high quality glutathione and milk thistle supplements on a daily basis!

The All-In-One Supplement I Recommend to My Readers

There are a lot of junk dietary supplements out there, and for some reason, those promoting detoxification seem to be associated with shady companies from the dark corners of the earth.

In fact, I got so frustrated with hearing readers complain about the low quality and high cost that I decided to develop my own daily detoxification formula that is both effective and very affordable — so anyone can enjoy the miraculous benefits of daily detoxification.

As you may be aware, in addition to my work with Live in the Now, I also run Stop Aging Now, a company that has been proudly making premium-grade supplements for over 20 years. Working with my Scientific Advisory Board, I created a formula that combines 7 of the most powerful ingredients for detoxification known to science, including potent doses of glutathione and milk thistle.

My formula is called Synergy7®, and I designed it to be the best daily detoxification supplement on the market. It supports optimal liver function, daily detoxification of environmental toxins, balanced hormones and optimal overall wellness with a unique synergistic blend of ingredients — all in just 2 small capsules per day. (No messy powders, complicated protocols or restrictive diets.)

For a limited time, Live in the Now readers can get Synergy7 for as low as $14.95 per bottle — with free shipping. I encourage you to take advantage of this great deal. Click here to take advantage of this special offer.

I take Synergy7 every single day without fail. Here’s why you should consider doing the same:

  • Safe, Gentle and Effective – Unlike harsh “cleanses,” which can disrupt your regular activities, Synergy7 is designed to be taken on a daily basis. It works by strengthening your body’s natural systems of detoxification to promote optimal digestion, immunity, hormone balance, weight loss and energy levels.
  • 100 mg of Glutathione – Features the superior reduced form of this enzyme which increases stores of super oxide dismutase (SOD) and fortifies the body’s antioxidant system.
  • 526 mg of Milk Thistle Extract – This standardized extract provides 420 mg of silymarin, the dose shown in the research to support the liver in detoxification.
  • SproutGarden® Cruciferous Vegetable Blend – This USA-grown blend of cruciferous vegetable sprouts contains plant enzymes at their highest levels and helps supporthealthy glutathione levels.
  • 200 mg of Calcium D-Glucarate – This specialized form of calcium assists the body with elimination of toxins through inhibition of an enzyme called beta-glucuronidase.
  • 25 mg of Alpha Lipoic Acid – This “universal” water- and fat-soluble antioxidant helps to neutralize toxins in cells throughout the body during the detoxification process.
  • 300 mg of N-Acetyl-L-Cysteine (NAC) – This amino acid helps to replenish intracellular stores of glutathione, supports the immune system and acts as a potent antioxidant
  • 50 mcg of Selenium – An essential trace mineral and antioxidant, selenium boosts the body’s ability to recycle glutathione, which helps to keep glutathione levels high.
  • Synergy7 is available for as low as $14.95 per bottle, which is the same or even less than those discount, low-quality products. Plus, it ships to you for free and is tax-free.

Synergy7 comes with an “any reason” 365-day guarantee. That’s right, take it for up to one year, and return it for a full refund if you don’t like it.

For a limited time, Live in the Now readers can get Synergy7 for as low as $14.95 per bottle — with free shipping. I encourage you to take advantage of this great deal.

One response to “Detox Is Trendy, But Is It Healthy?”

  1. Repeatedly I have been trying to order several products when special offers happen but have been unable. If I can order separately and you consolidate the shipments, is this possible?
