Researchers from the Institute of Neuroscience and Medicine in Germany, publishing in the journal, Stem Cell Research and Therapy, suggest that a compound found in turmeric could encourage the growth of nerve cells thought to be part of the brain’s repair kit. Using a mouse model known to simulate human brain metabolism, researchers injected the animals with aromatic-turmerone and then used CT scanning technology to assess brain rejuvenation activity. For many years, scientists believed that neurons in the brain were not capable of regeneration, but recent studies of natural compounds and advances in medical technology have demonstrated that the brain has the capability to repair itself, and loss of this ability can lead to disease and early mortality.
