Are GMOs Behind the Increasing Rates of Cancer and Food Allergies in the U.S.?
Did you know that just by moving to the U.S., a person’s risk of cancer increases by 400%? In the last 20 years, cancer rates, as well as the incidence of childhood ailments like food allergies, asthma, ADHD and autism have increased dramatically in the U.S. In the last 20 years, we have also seen the introduction of “novel proteins” (read: GMOs) into the U.S. food supply.
According to Robyn O’Brien, author of The Unhealthy Truth: How Our Food Is Making Us Sick and What We Can Do About It, founder of the AllergyKids Foundation and mother of four, this is no coincidence. Robyn, a food industry analyst turned “real food evangelist,” gave this profoundly moving and insightful TED Talk in March at TEDxAustin. In just 18 minutes, she makes a compelling case for the elimination of genetically modified foods from the U.S. food system.
Robyn was moved to investigate the cause behind the increase in food allergies in the U.S. when one of her children suffered a severe allergic reaction to a “typical” American breakfast. What she discovered in the process was so alarming that it propelled her on a mission to inform people of the dangers that the food industry is exposing our children to in its efforts to maximize profits.
